With the guidance of the J.M. Bhadranie Jayawardhana Municipal Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council, Bharat Kosh, a repository of Indic knowledge, was inaugurated by the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha at the Colombo Public Library of the Colombo Municipal Council on 12th August 2024.
The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jah, First Secretary Dr. Ankuran Datta, Sri Lanka Library Association President Dr. Preethi Liyanage, Chief Librarian Mrs. Varuni Gangabadaarachchi, Director (Development), and Staff of the Colombo Public Library participated in the event.
The inauguration of Bharat Kosh marks the commencement of the Bharat Sri Lanka Maitri Week 2024, a week-long celebration highlighting the vibrant cultural and artistic exchanges between India and Sri Lanka commemorating the 78th Independence Day of India.
The Bharat Kosh, housed in the century-old library, is a curated collection that includes various books on India, works by Indian authors, artifacts, and cultural treasures. This repository celebrates India’s rich and diverse heritage and reflects the deep historical and cultural ties that have long connected India and Sri Lanka.
