Vaani Vizha – 2025

 Colombo, a city renowned for its rich cultural diversity and the harmonious coexistence of its many communities, once again affirmed its dedication to interfaith unity with the celebration of Vaani Vizha 2025. Upholding the tradition of inclusivity and spiritual solidarity, this annual religious and cultural observance brought together people from all walks of life under one roof.

Vaani Vizha, organized by the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) under the esteemed patronage of Her Worship the Mayor, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, the event took place on 29th September 2025 at the Members Hall of the CMC. As one of the four major religious events observed annually by the Council, this year’s Vaani Vizha was a vibrant blend of devotional offerings, cultural expressions, and communal harmony.

The programme commenced with Hindu religious poojas, followed by melodious renditions of Thevaram and Sagalakala Valli Malai performed by the talented students of C/ Kanapathy Hindu Ladies’ Maha Vidyalayam, Colombo – 12. A Welcome Dance presented by a CMC Legal Officer added a ceremonial charm, while engaging cultural performances were delivered by students from Nawagampura Sangatamil Mandram, C/Vivekananda College, Colombo – 13, and Colombo Hindu College, Mutuwal, Colombo – 15.

The event was graced by a distinguished gathering, including Her Worship the Mayor, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, the Hon. Deputy Mayor, Hon Municipal Council Members (MMCs), the Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Municipal Commissioners (Administration and Engineering Services), the Municipal Secretary, Heads of Departments, Directors, and the CMC Office Staff.

More than a religious observance, Vaani Vizha 2025 stood as a testament to Colombo’s unwavering commitment to mutual respect, inclusiveness, and the peaceful coexistence of all communities. Events like these not only celebrate tradition and devotion but also strengthen the social fabric that defines this vibrant city.
