Children’s Day Celebrations – 2025

The Colombo Municipal Council’s Public Assistance Department proudly hosted Children’s Day 2025 on 1st October at the Mayor’s Residence, bringing together 413 vibrant and enthusiastic children from 12 preschools managed by the Council.

This joyful celebration created a lively atmosphere where preschool children participated in a colorful array of traditional Sri Lankan games and craft activities, including:

• කොස්කොළ ඔටුන්න (Jackfruit Leaf Crown)
• මඤ්ඤොක්කා මාල (Cassava Garland)
• පොල්පිති හරකා (Coconut Frond Bull)
• කොලපොතේ ඇදන් යෑම (Pulling a Cart of Leaves)
• රූංපෙත්ත (Spinning Top)
• කුරුම්බැට්ටි මැෂිම (Tender Coconut Shell Machine)
• ගොක්කොළ නයා (Young Palm Leaf Snake)

These activities not only entertained but also helped nurture creativity and a connection to local traditions among the young participants.

The event was graced by the presence of Her Worship the Mayor, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, along with Members of the Municipal Council (MMCs), the Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration and Engineering Services), the Municipal Secretary, the Charity Commissioner, the Registrar, as well as Staff Assistants, Preschool Supervisors, and all preschool teachers.

The Colombo Municipal Council remains committed to the holistic development of young learners and celebrates the joy and innocence of childhood through such meaningful initiatives.
