The Government of Sri Lanka has predicted an acute food shortage by September, 2022. Residents of Colombo are at particular risk due to its dense population, and the low-income status of approximately 60%. The Mayor of Colombo, Mrs. Rosy Senanayake, and Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is working with the support of ONE Team to prepare the cultivation of important food crops on 600 acres of land within the city.
The CMC is taking the first step to help the residents of Colombo by implementing a comprehensive strategy to address the food shortage. We will work hand-in-hand with all of the City’s residents and help them overcome this challenge.
It is important to take the food crisis seriously. Vegetables, fruits, and other food essentials that help you live a healthy life will not be easily accessible and affordable to everyone
Residents are strongly encouraged to cultivate essential food crops in their unused bare lands, home gardens, balconies and roof tops.
