19. Carpentry workshops which use multipurpose carpentry machine or wood based industries where more than 5 workers and less than 25 workers are employed.
20. Residential hotels, guest houses, rest houses with 05 or more and less than 20 rooms.
21. Vehicle repairing or maintaining garages excluding spray-painting or mobile air-conditioning activities.
22. Repairing, maintaining or installation centres of refrigerators and air-conditioners.
23. Container yards excluding where vehicle servicing activities are carried out.
24. All electrical and electronic goods repairing centre where more than 10 workers are employed.
25. Printing presses and later press machines excluding lead smelting.

Obtaining a Machinery Permit

Instructions for applying for a Machinery permit

  • An application form with a list of all the machineries with capacities and noise levels and supportive documents (noise level test reports) should be submitted at the City Planning Division of the CMC. The application form should be signed by the owner(s) of the industry/ business. The application form is attached overleaf.
  • The following documents need to be attached with the application form to ensure fast processing
    1. Recommendation from the Chief Officer of Fire Brigade, Fire Service Department of CMC, T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colomo 10
    2. Recommendation from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Public Health Department of CMC, Town Hall, Colombo 7
    3. Recommendation from the Chairman, Central Environmental Authority, 104, Robert Gunawardena Mawatha, Battaramula (if not covered by the recommendation of the CMOH)
    4. Any other necessary recommendations
    5. In case of any change of use/ deviation from the approved building plan for which the Certificate of Conformity is issued, a copy of the Change of Use certificate, new Certificate of Conformity and new approved building plan should be attached
    6. In order to facilitate requests for further information, correspondence and in case the permit is to be issued by hand, a Letter of Authorisation should be submitted with
      • Name of the owner(s) of the business/ trade or the Nominee
      • NIC number of the owner(s) or the Nominee
      • Specimen signature of the owner(s) or the Nominee
  • A processing fee is applicable for each application as follows and is payable to the Revenue section of the Treasurer’s Department:
    1. Fee for a new permit: Rs. 500 + GST
    2. Fee for renewal of a permit (annual charge): Rs. 250 + GST
  • The receipt of the payment of processing fee should be shown to the receiving counter of the City Planning Division at the time of submission of the application. Processing of the application will be initiated only after the receipt has been duly produced
