The Property Registration Single Window Counter was opened to the public since 2020.03.10 onwards at Colombo Municipal Council premises. Counters are open from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm on weekdays.
In order to improve the business environment GoSL appointed task forces to streamline the existing processes similarly Registering Property Task Force appointed through a cabinet paper.
During the past years many reforms have been implemented and as a result in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index, able to lift Sri Lanka Property Registration Index from 157 to 138 position while overall country ranking lift from 111 to 99 position.
The recent World Bank Mission highlighted the need of establishing a Property Registration Single Counter that would enable to provide greater service to citizens by streamlining the existing mechanism.
This is more equivalent to an extended Single Window Counter and it would enhance the registering property in Colombo municipal area by bringing services provided by Department of Registrar General, Western Province Revenue Department and Survey General into a one roof.
This would bring down the time taken for registration & number of visits to each relevant institution by the citizens & investors during land transaction process.
CMC provided office space for setting up counters for Registrar General, Commissioner of Provincial Revenue Department of Western Province and Survey General in the Town Hall premises.
