Planting 100,000 Seedlings within the Colombo Municipality Area 

In line with the Earth’s Day – 22nd April 2021

The Colombo Municipal Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment successfully launched the project to plant 100,000 new seedlings within the Colombo municipality area on 22nd of April, under the theme of “Kolambata Gasak Ithiri Karamu”.   

The project aims to achieve the following primary objectives.

• Planting 100,000 seedlings in this year (2021) within the municipality area. 
• Introducing plant species that can be grown in a small space for the people living in flats in the city and directly involve them in the project.
• Establishment of a fruit orchard of rare fruits for making aware and knowledgeable of the children in Colombo municipality area.

The event was conducted with the presence of Her Worship Rosy Senanayake, Mayor of Colombo, Honorable Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Environment, His Excellency The Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency The High Commissioner of Bangladesh and His Excellency The Ambassador of France for Sri Lanka and Mrs. Roshanie Dissanayake (Attorney at Low), Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council.
