Three-Day Awareness and Orientation Programme for Newly Elected Members of the Colombo Municipal Council

The Human Resources Development Department of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), under the guidance of the Municipal Commissioner, commenced a comprehensive three-day Awareness and Orientation Programme for its newly elected Members on June 21, 2025, at the CMC Auditorium.
 
The programme was inaugurated in the esteemed presence of Her Worship the Mayor, the Honorable Deputy Mayor, other Honorable Councilors, Heads of Departments, and senior management. It is being conducted in close collaboration with all 16 departments of the Council, including 9 divisions under the Municipal Engineer’s Department and the Ayurvedic Department.
 
This initiative is designed to equip new Members with a thorough understanding of the institutional framework, operational functions, and legislative responsibilities of the Council. Through a series of presentations, department briefings, and interactive discussions, participants are being introduced to key areas such as urban planning, engineering services, public health, solid waste management, revenue administration, traditional health services, and citizen engagement.
 
The programme emphasizes the importance of transparency, accountability, and collaborative governance, with the goal of empowering the new Councillors to effectively serve the people of Colombo.
 
The orientation will continue across three consecutive days, ensuring that all Members are adequately prepared to take on their roles with clarity and confidence. The Colombo Municipal Council remains committed to fostering capable and informed leadership for the sustainable development of the city.
