On June 30, 2025, Bonjean Road in Kotahena (Colombo 13) was officially renamed Archbishop Bonjean Road, in a heartfelt tribute to Sri Lanka’s first Archbishop, the Most Rev. Christopher Ernest Bonjean. This significant and meaningful event marks a proud moment for both the local community and the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka.
The unveiling of the new name board was led by His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, symbolizing the deep respect and gratitude held for Archbishop Bonjean’s enduring legacy and contributions, especially in the areas of education, spiritual leadership, and social development.
Adding to the occasion’s dignity, Her Worship the Mayor of Colombo, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, attended the ceremony, showing civic appreciation for the Archbishop’s lasting influence.
