Courtesy Visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Colombo Municipal Council

On July 15, 2025, Her Excellency Miyon Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy visit to the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) to extend her congratulations to Her Worship the Mayor of Colombo, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar. Ambassador Lee was accompanied by Ms. Eunji Kang, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and the Country Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The visiting delegation was warmly received by Her Worship the Mayor, the Hon. Deputy Mayor, the Municipal Commissioner, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Engineering Services), the Municipal Secretary, the Municipal Treasurer, and the Director (Development).

This visit reaffirmed the continued commitment of the Republic of Korea to strengthening bilateral relations at the municipal level. Discussions highlighted Korea’s enduring support for Colombo’s urban development, notably through initiatives such as the e-Tax program — a digital taxation project currently being implemented by KOICA in partnership with the CMC — as well as the Methane project aimed at promoting sustainable waste management.

The courtesy call served as an important gesture of friendship and cooperation, further deepening the partnership between the Republic of Korea and the city of Colombo.
