Special Session on Sri Lanka’s Digital Economy Blueprint Highlights Role of Local Government

On July 18, 2025, the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) hosted a special session at the Single Window Counter Auditorium to advance Sri Lanka’s Digital Economy Blueprint, with a particular focus on the critical role of local government in driving digital transformation at the grassroots level.

The session was led by Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, a key architect of the Digital Economy Blueprint, accompanied by his expert team. Dr. Wijayasuriya presented the strategic vision, policy directions, and technological innovations underpinning the national digital agenda, while highlighting how local authorities like the CMC can actively align with and contribute to its successful implementation.

The event brought together a distinguished group of participants, including the Hon. Deputy Minister, Ministry of Digital Economy, Her Worship the Mayor, Hon. Deputy Mayor, Hon. Council Members, Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Municipal Commissioners (Engineering Services & Administration), Municipal Secretary, Heads of Departments, Deputy Directors, Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy, Officials from both the Ministry of Digital Economy and CMC, as well as Prof. Rahula Attalage of UOM.

This collaborative session reinforced the importance of robust local-national partnerships in realizing the goals of the Digital Economy Blueprint. It also laid a strong foundation for continued cooperation between the CMC and the Ministry of Digital Economy in advancing digital governance and public service delivery in Sri Lanka.
