The Colombo Municipal Council Hosts Strategic Discussion on City’s Master Plan

On 11 August 2025, the Colombo Municipal Council successfully convened a strategic discussion on the city's Master Plan, underscoring its commitment to creating a sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready Colombo. The event was highlighted by a keynote address from Professor Nihal Perera, a globally recognized architect and urban planner from Ball State University.

Her Worship the Mayor, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, the Municipal Commissioner, as well as Heads of Departments, Directors, and Officers of the CMC, actively participated in this pivotal session.

The discussion focused on core urban development themes, including: People-centric planning, Sustainability, and green city initiatives, Heritage-led revitalization, and Transit-oriented development.

Professor Perera’s presentation offered thought-provoking insights into the politics of space and the dynamic relationship between communities and the environments they shape. His perspective provided a meaningful framework for reimagining Colombo's urban future.
