Official Inspection of Colombo Municipal Council Departments

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), the premier local governing authority for the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka, continues its commitment to efficient public service delivery through regular oversight and evaluation. As the largest local authority in the country, the CMC administers a wide range of municipal functions across 25 departments, which include 16 main service departments and 9 specialized engineering divisions.

In a significant move to further improve transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency, Her Worship the Mayor of Colombo, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, recently conducted an official inspection of the various departments under the Council's purview. HW the Mayor was accompanied by the Hon. Deputy Mayor, the Municipal Commissioner, and Members of the Municipal Council (MMCs).

During the visit, the HW the Mayor held discussions with departmental officers and staff, addressing operational challenges and identifying areas for improvement. These interactions provided valuable insights into the daily functions and difficulties faced by municipal employees.

This inspection reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to fostering a work environment that supports its employees while ensuring that the citizens of Colombo receive high-quality public services. The initiative reflects the Council's ongoing efforts to enhance service standards and uphold its core principles of good governance, transparency, and excellence in public service delivery.
