Colombo, a city known for its rich cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence among various communities, continues to uphold the spirit of unity and interfaith harmony. In line with this tradition, one of the four major annual religious observances was held inclusively, embracing the shared values of all ethnic and religious groups.
This year’s Milad-Un-Nabi Celebration, marking the 1500th birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was organized with great reverence and dignity by the Colombo Municipal Council on 04 September 2025 from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm at the Members Hall of the Colombo Municipal Council.
The event was held under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Rizvi Sali, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, and Mr. Hanif Yusuf, Governor of the Western Province.
The programme was graced by Her Worship the Mayor, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, Hon. Deputy Mayor, the Hon. MMCs, the Municipal Commissioner, Colombo District Divisional Secretary, the General Secretary of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, the Board of Trustees of Dewatagaha Jumma Masjid, as well as Heads of Departments, Directors, and all Office staff of the CMC.
This significant occasion served not only as a religious commemoration but also as a celebration of Colombo’s enduring commitment to mutual respect, understanding, and peaceful coexistence among all communities.
