Reading Day Program – Developing the Skills of Preschool Children

Under the guidance of Her Worship the Mayor of the Colombo Municipal Council, a reading day is held every month. Accordingly, Reading Day was held on September 16, 2025, at the Mayor's Official Residence. This event was organized for children attending preschools managed by the Colombo Municipal Council and is part of a monthly initiative aimed at fostering early childhood development.

A joint effort by the Public Assistance Department and the Colombo Public Library, the event aimed to nurture the creativity, imagination, and overall development of young children. The day featured a variety of engaging and educational activities, including story reading, drawing, singing, and other interactive entertainment designed specifically for preschoolers.

The event was attended by the Charity Commissioner, the Chief Librarian, preschool teachers, and the children of De Mel Preschool, who enthusiastically participated in the day’s programs.

This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of Her Worship the Mayor and the Colombo Municipal Council to invest in the early education and well-being of the city’s youngest residents. Plans are already in motion to organize more such enriching programs in the future, benefiting even more children across the municipal area.
