Sister Library is a travelling feminist library—a vibrant project by artist Aqui Thami—celebrating women’s creativity through literature, art, and community engagement. Organized by the Goethe-Institut and the Alliance Française de Colombo, the project took 6 November to 30 November 2025 at the main lobby of the Colombo Public Library.
The project offers a space to engage with books primarily authored by Sri Lankan women, as well as works by non–Sri Lankan female authors translated into Sinhala. It featured shared reading sessions, discussions, and film screenings.
The opening evening was graced by Ms. Vraîe Cally Balthazaar, Mayor of Colombo; H.E. Rémi Lambert, Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka; H.E. Dr. Felix Neumann, Ambassador of Germany to Sri Lanka; Ms. Cécile Hoorelbeke, Directress of the Alliance Française de Colombo; Mr. Stefan Winkler, Director of the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka; Ms. Sharanya Sekaram from Every Story Sri Lanka; and our gracious host, Mrs. Varuni Gangabadaarachchi, Head Librarian of the Colombo Public Library.
This closing event marks the end of Sister Library’s inspiring journey across Sri Lanka—from Kandy to Weligama and Jaffna—realized in partnership with Every Story Sri Lanka.
