The Beginning of the New Year – 2026

The commencement of official duties for the year 2026 was ceremonially held on January 1, 2026, at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) premises. The event was graced by the presence of Her Worship the Mayor, Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar, the Hon. Deputy Mayor, Mr. Hemantha Kumara, Members of the Municipal Council (MMCs), the Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Palitha Nanayakkara, Heads of Departments, and all Staff of the CMC.

The ceremony began with the hoisting of the National Flag by Her Worship the Mayor, the Hon. Deputy Mayor, and the Municipal Commissioner, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Religious elders then invoked blessings upon Her Worship the Mayor, the Hon. Deputy Mayor, MMCs, the Municipal Commissioner, Heads of Departments, and all staff of the CMC.

The event concluded with congratulatory addresses delivered by Her Worship the Mayor, the Hon. Deputy Mayor, and the Municipal Commissioner, marking the official commencement of duties for the New Year.
