Launch of the Healthy School Canteen Initiative “Healthy Food: Smart Kids”

The Colombo Municipal Council proudly launched the Healthy School Canteen Initiative on 17th March 2026 at Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo 08, in the gracious presence of the Honorable Governor of the Western Province and Her Worship the Mayor.

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the Chief Secretary of the Western Province, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education & Vocational Education, Higher government officials from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health, representatives from the Partnership for Healthy Cities, and members of the Municipal Council. Principals, school authorities, canteen operators, and students also joined this important milestone.

This initiative, conducted by the Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council under the leadership of Her Worship the Mayor, marks a significant step in addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.

The program aims at improving the nutritional status of the school children by introducing school canteen food environment policy and an operational guidelines for the school canteen operators. Essential kitchen equipment will also be provided for the school canteens to prepare healthy foods.

In its first phase, the initiative will benefit approximately 20,000 students across 18 schools, with plans to expand to all 142 schools under the Colombo Municipal Council.

Through strong collaboration with schools, parents, and communities, this initiative aims to drive lasting behavioral change and create a healthier generation.

සෞඛ්‍යමත් ආහාර – නැණවත් දරුවන්”

කොළඹ මහ නගර සභාව විසින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන සෞඛ්‍යමත් පාසල් ආපනශාලා ව්‍යාපෘතියේ සමාරම්භය 2026 මාර්තු 17 වන දින කොළඹ  8, දේවි බාලිකා විද්‍යාලයේ දී, බස්නාහිර පළාත් ගරු ආණ්ඩුකාරතුමාගේ සහ ගරු නගරාධිපතිතුමියගේ ගෞරවනීය සම්භාවයෙන් යුතුව සාර්ථකව ආරම්භ කරන ලදී.

මෙම අවස්ථාවට බස්නාහිර පළාත් ප්‍රධාන ලේඛම්තුමා, අධ්‍යාපන, උසස් අධ්‍යාපන හා වෘත්තීය අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍යාංශ ලේඛම්තුමා, අධ්‍යාපන හා සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍යාංශවල උසස් රාජ්‍ය නිලධාරීන්, Partnership for Healthy Cities හි නියෝජිතයින්, කොළඹ නගර සභාවේ ගරු නාගරික මන්ත්‍රීන් හා නිලධාරීන් , පාසල් විදුහල්පතිවරු, ගුරු මණ්ඩලය, ආපනශාලා හිමිකරුවන්, පාසැල් සිසුන් ඇතුළු බොහෝ පිරිසක් සහභාගී වූහ.

ගරු නගරාධිපතිතුමියගේ මග පෙන්වීම යටතේ කොළඹ මහ නගර සභාවේ ජන සෞඛ්‍ය දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව විසින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන මෙම වැඩසටහන, සෞඛ්‍යමත් ආහාර රටාවක් ඇති කිරීම මගින් බෝ නොවන රෝග පාලනය කිරීමේ වැදගත් පියවරක් ලෙස සැලකේ.

මෙම වැඩසටහනේ ප්‍රධාන අරමුණ වන්නේ පාසල් දරුවන්ගේ පෝෂණ තත්ත්වය වර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා ආහාර ප්‍රතිපත්තියක් හඳුන්වාදීමත්, පාසැල් ආපනශාලා ක්‍රියාකරුවන් සදහා මාර්ගෝපදේශයක් හදුන්වා දීමත්, සෞඛ්‍යමත් ආහාර සකස් කිරීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය උපකරණද ලබාදීමට නියමිතය.

මෙහි පළමු අදියර තෝරා ගත් පාසැල් 18ක ක්‍රියාත්මක වන අතර, ඉදිරියේ දී කොළඹ නගර සභා බල ප්‍රදේශයේ ඇති පාසැල් 142ක් ආවරණය වන පරිදි මෙම වැඩසටහන පුළුල් කිරීමට සැලසුම් කර ඇත.

පාසැල් බලධාරීන්, දෙමාපියන්, පාසැල් දරුවන් සහ අනෙකුත් වග කිවයුතු අන්ශවල සහයෝගයෙන් සමාජය ශක්තිමත් දිගුකාලීන හැසිරීම් වෙනස්කම් ඇති කරමින් සෞඛ්‍යමත් නව පරපුරක් ගොඩනැගීම මෙම වැඩසටහනේ අරමුණයි.
